EUROPE BEFORE THE BELL: THANKFUL FOR A QUIETER DAY?

With the U.S. out for Thanksgiving, liquidity will be thinner across markets on Thursday, which could mean things are pretty quiet, or that small moves become large ones in the absence of anyone to trade with, and everything gets 'exciting'.

We don't know about you, but from our side a quiet day would be welcome , it feels like a lot has been going on.

The early indications are we may get our wish. Euro STOXX 50 futures are pretty much flat, as are futures on most European bourses. That includes Britain's FTSE 100, which rose 0.85% on Wednesday, roughly in line with the STOXX 600 .STOXX after the country's finance minister Rachel Reeves announced her tax rising budget.

Government bond investors liked it more, with British gilt yields dropping sharply, meaningfully outperforming European and U.S. peers. So eyes will be on gilts at the open on Thursday.

Defence stocks could also see some moves after a senior Russian diplomat said on Wednesday Russia will make no big concessions on a peace plan for Ukraine , after a leaked recording of a call involving U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff showed he had advised Moscow on how to pitch to Donald Trump.

As for news about specific stocks, watch Puma PUMG.DE after Bloomberg News reported on Chinese sportswear maker Anta Sports Products 2020.HK is among firms exploring a potential takeover.

Meanwhile Remy Cointreau's RCOP.PA new boss said the French spirits group is confident of returning to growth in its fiscal second half.
