Whirlpool's Brazil unit says company will cease production in Argentina

SAO PAULO, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Whirlpool SA WHRL4.SA, the Brazilian unit of Whirlpool Corp WHR.N, said on Wednesday that the company will cease production in Argentina, where it has a manufacturing unit located in Pilar.

  • Whirlpool SA owns home appliance brands Brastemp and Consul.

  • The company said the decision reflects "strategic guidelines of operational efficiency and responsible source allocation."

  • The move does not affect import, commercialization and distribution activities in Argentina, it added in a securities filing.

  • Whirlpool had announced last year a 550 million-real ($102.31 million) investment to expand and modernize its Rio Claro and Joinville plants in Brazil.
