0920 GMT - Hesai Group has sharpened its competitive edge with self-made chip tech, CGS International analyst Sera Chen says. The maker of sensors used in cars and robots announced the development this week, sending shares soaring. Chen reckons the move is an advantage as competition in lidar, or light detection and ranging, focuses increasingly on chip-level innovation. Hesai's on-chip integration with dual functional safety and cybersecurity showcases technical capability while lowering bill of materials cost, the analyst adds. Another advance announced by the firm at its tech day should also ease concerns about its technological maturity in photon-isolation technology. She expects solid shipment growth from Hesai in 2026-2027. Shares are up over 29% so far this week. (jason.chau@wsj.com)
