Dick's Sees Foot Locker Turnaround Aided By Focused Offerings -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-04

1243 ET - Dick's Sporting Goods is taking aggressive steps to turn around its recently acquired Foot Locker, particularly in slimming down stores' inventory, say executives at a Morgan Stanley conference. "If you walked into a Foot Locker store and looked at the wall, it was merely a run-on sentence, just a bunch of shoes stuck on the wall, not really organized," says Executive Chairman Ed Stack. The company says it is removing a significant portion of products and highlighting certain well-selling franchises. Those changes could cause some near-term pain in margins and sales comparisons, but having the right product will eventually lead to a turnaround for Foot Locker, executives say.
