Hong Kong's Q3 Port Cargo Slides 5.6%

Hong Kong's port cargo throughput fell 5.6% in the third quarter of 2025 to 41.3 million tons from a year prior, data released by the city's Census and Statistics Department said Tuesday.

Of the total, inward port cargo slid 11% to 24.7 million tons, while outward port cargo jumped 3.8% to 16.6 million tons.

Within port cargo, seaborne and river cargo decreased 6.7% and 3.7% to 25.5 million tons and 15.8 million tons, respectively, over a year earlier.

A double-digit increase was seen in the tonnage of inward port cargo loaded in Thailand in the period, while double-digit decreases were recorded in the same period from Chile, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

For outward port cargo, tonnage discharged in Australia, Malaysia, and the Chinese Mainland saw double-digit increases, while double-digit decreases were recorded in Thailand, the U.S., Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

In the nine months ended Sept. 30, port cargo throughput declined 5.7% year over year to 124.8 million tons, with inward and outward port cargo falling 11.2% and rising 3.8%, respectively.
