Shares of BHP Group (ASX:BHP) and Rio Tinto Group (ASX:RIO) rose around 4% and 3% respectively, in recent Thursday trade, as copper prices surged to a record high, driven by a combination of tightening global supply, US tariff concerns, and growing withdrawals of the metal from London Metal Exchange warehouses.
Copper prices rose 3.1% to settle at $11,145 a ton on the London Metal Exchange.
