Global Ship Lease (GSL) said Monday it agreed to buy three 8,600-twenty-foot equivalent unit, or TEU, containerships for a total price of $90 million.
The company said the vessels come with existing charters that could generate $88 million if they run to their mid-2030 full terms.
Global Ship Lease estimated the ships would have a combined scrap value of about $40 million at a scrap price of $400 per lightweight-tonnage, or LWT.
The company said the vessels are expected to be delivered near the end of the year and plans to use cash on hand at closing, with potential financing added later.
Global Ship Lease said the acquisition will increase its fleet to 71 ships with a capacity of 422,567 TEU.
