TotalEnergies (TTE) will lose UK export credit support for its Mozambique liquefied natural gas project after the British government decided to end its participation, the UK Department of Business and Trade said Monday.
The UK had backed the TotalEnergies-operated project in 2020, but work was halted in 2021 when force majeure was declared following a worsening security situation and terrorist insurgency.
Officials now judge that project risks have increased since 2020 and that withdrawing support better protects the UK's interests. The decision is specific to Mozambique LNG and was agreed with project sponsors and other participants, with UK Export Finance set to reimburse the premium already paid to reflect the end of its risk exposure.
