Meta Is a Partner, Not an Investor in AMI, Departing Meta Chief AI Scientist Says -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-04

1146 GMT - Meta is a partner, not an investor, departing Meta Chief AI Scientist Yann LeCun says when referring to his new project AMI. Advanced Machine Intelligence--AMI--is a project focused on building artificial intelligence systems with a human-like architecture, he says. "It is a project that Mark Zuckerberg really likes and he thinks there might be a future," he adds. However, over the past several months, they both realized that the possible applications of this work extend far beyond Meta's core interests. "So it became clear to me that it was the right time to basically create an independent organization," he says. Meta is a partner interested in some of the research outcomes and developments, he adds. (najat.kantouar@wsj.com)
