VinFast Auto (VFS) said Thursday it has a signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu, India, for the expansion of an existing facility to support plans to add production lines for electric buses and e-scooters.
Under the terms of the MoU, the Tamil Nadu government will allocate around 500 acres of land adjacent to VinFast's facility in an industrial park in Thoothukudi and support the company in obtaining permits and establishing the required infrastructure, the company said.
VinFast said it will invest $500 million, under its existing $2 billion commitment, to develop workshops and production lines for electric buses and e-scooters, with the state government providing applicable incentives and financial support measures.
The existing facility, which covers 400 acres, has an annual production capacity of 50,000 electric vehicles and is being expanded to 150,000 units, VinFast said.
