CVS Health's (CVS) Aetna unit said Thursday it has bundled medical procedures and medications into one prior authorization to simplify the process and launched the Aetna Health app to help members navigate the healthcare system.
Starting November, Aetna said pharmacy prescriptions for medical procedures in an approved prior authorization are automatically approved.
The company said it also rolled out a musculoskeletal bundle that includes imaging, knee replacement procedures, pain and anti-nausea drugs, possible inpatient stays, infection control, and medical equipment.
Through its Aetna Clinical Collaboration program, 30-day readmissions and length of stay of Medicare Advantage members are expected to be cut by about 5% once fully rolled out, the company said, adding that the program is being implemented in 17 facilities so far.
