Rio Tinto (RIO) said Thursday it has produced its first copper from the Johnson Camp mine in Arizona through its Nuton bioleaching technology.

The deployment involved the design and delivery of a technology package for a heap leach pad, targeting the production of about 30,000 tons of refined copper over four years, the miner said.

Rio Tinto said it is having discussions with several potential US clients to support the local copper supply chain.

Shares of the company were down 1.2% in recent Thursday premarket activity.
