Market Chatter: US Said to Investigate TP-Link for Misleading Customers with Alleged China Ties

TP-Link Systems is under investigation by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission for allegedly misleading customers by masking its Chinese links since restructuring in 2024, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing a source familiar with the matter.

The investigation into TP-Link is still in its early stages, and there is no guarantee the FTC will lodge a complaint, according to Bloomberg.

TP-Link was founded in China nearly 30 years ago but was divided into two entities based out of China and the U.S., Bloomberg said.

TP-Link "continues to be transparent with media and government about its supply chain, and it is absurd to suggest we have tried to hide anything," Bloomberg quoted the device manufacturer's co-founder Jeffrey Chao as saying.
