Baker Hughes Reports Higher U.S. Rig Count -- Market Talk

1319 ET - Total rigs operating in the U.S. rose by 5 to 549 rigs this week, Baker Hughes reported Friday. Oil rigs led the way, with 6 more operating for the week ended Dec. 5 while one less gas rig was operating. However, rigs this week remain lower than they were at this time last year, with the U.S. count at 589 at this time in 2024. The Canadian rig count is up 3 from last week to 191, with Canadian oil rigs up 5 to 126 and gas rigs down 2 to 65. Crude oil futures are up 0.9% to over $60 a barrel. Brent crude rises 1% to almost $64 a barrel. (kirk.maltais@wsj.com)
