SBI Holdings (TYO:8473) said it will acquire an additional 1.6 million shares in CREAL through a third-party allotment, with payment to be concluded on Dec. 23.
The purchase will increase SBI's ownership to 20.67% from 19.29%of voting rights, making the asset management platform operator an equity-method affiliate, according to its Tokyo bourse filing on Friday.
SBI intends to expand its group's real estate finance business by leveraging CREAL's platform, which serves a wide range of investors from retail to institutional.
