Dollar General (DG) will pay $1.55 million to resolve claims that it frequently overcharged Pennsylvania customers with higher prices at checkout than those posted on store shelves, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced Tuesday.

Dollar General, which operates more than 900 stores in the state, failed over 40% of pricing accuracy inspections from 2019 to 2023, the attorney general's office said in a statement.

The settlement resolves allegations that the retailer misled consumers and violated Pennsylvania's Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law, the state said.

Under the agreement, Dollar General will pay penalties and costs and implement required business practice improvements, the state said.

Dollar General did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.

The company's shares rose 1.6% in recent Tuesday trading.
