Panasonic (TYO:6752) plans to launch its Nessum underwater communications system by 2030, aiming to deliver high-quality image and sound transmission, Nikkei reported Wednesday.
Being developed with Kyushu Institute of Technology, Nessum uses wired and wireless connections on standard power lines, reaching speeds around 1 gigabit per second, according to the report.
Already tested on land, it could aid seabed research and resource exploration, including rare-earth deposits near Japan, the report said.
