Shares of energy companies rose in anticipation of a Federal Reserve rate cut.
Exxon Mobil shares rose after the largest U.S. oil company by production forecast higher earnings and cash flow through the end of the decade, driven by stronger assets, a more profitable business mix, and lower costs from its multiyear transformation.
President Trump increased pressure on Ukraine to swiftly accept a U.S.-designed peace plan, hardening his position toward the embattled country and its European backers with claims that Russia was holding most of the cards.
