Apple Faces Swiss Preliminary Probe on Antitrust Concerns Regarding Mobile Payments Access

Apple (AAPL) is facing a preliminary investigation from Switzerland's competition commission to evaluate if the company is violating local antitrust law regarding access to mobile payments, the regulator said Thursday.

The Secretariat of the Swiss Competition Commission said it seeks to clarify if other providers of mobile payment apps can effectively compete with Apple Pay for contactless payments with iOS devices.

The regulator said that since late 2024, Apple has been providing Swiss third-party app providers access to the NFC & SE platform, which facilitates contactless payments, on iOS devices.

The regulator said, however, that it is now conducting a probe to determine if the terms and conditions for granting access adhere to Swiss antitrust law.

Apple did not immediately respond to an MT Newswires request for comment.
