The International Monetary Fund opened a regional center in Shanghai, appointing economist Johannes Wiegand as director, according to a Monday press release.
The new hub is designed to strengthen the IMF's ties with the Asia-Pacific region by supporting research, policy exchange and broader engagement with regional governments and institutions, according to the IMF.
