CVS's Consumer App Seen Boosting Aetna, Caremark Retention -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-11

1358 ET - CVS Health's plans to offer a consumer app should drive higher retention for its Aetna health insurance business and Caremark pharmacy-benefits manager, BofA Securities analysts say in a note. The company sees its pharmacies as a gateway to the rest of its enterprise, with consumers who fill prescriptions at its locations most likely to engage with its consumer app because it is a monthly routine, the analysts say. "We think CVS' retail pharmacy can accelerate adoption of its consumer facing app, which could lead to structurally higher engagement and retention over time," the analysts say. CVS's leadership in the retail pharmacy market is a significant differentiator versus its competitors that don't have a strong consumer facing brand, they say. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
