Cleveland Fed's Hammack Hints at Divergence From Rate-Cut Decision -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-12

0937 ET - Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack wasn't a policy voter in 2025. But in comments in Cincinnati, she suggests that she differed from the committee's decision to lower rates this week. Hammack says that the Fed's policy stance is now likely close to a neutral level that is neither stimulating nor restraining the economy. Given a long run of elevated inflation, Hammack would prefer a stance that is slightly more restrictive, she says. Hammack gets another turn as a policy voter in 2026, starting with the Fed's next meeting in January. (matt.grossman@wsj.com; @mattgrossman)
