Starbucks (SBUX) is being sued by Florida over allegedly "invidious and unlawful" hiring quotas based on race, according to a lawsuit filed by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Wednesday.

The suit claims that over the last five years to the present, the company has excluded or disfavored nonminorities in several employment practices and programs. The complaint also alleges that Starbucks paid employees different wages based on their race.

The lawsuit is seeking civil penalties of $10,000 for each instance of alleged racial discrimination by the company against a Florida resident, as well as affirmative relief and damages.

Starbucks didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
