DoorDash, Uber Sue New York City Over Tipping Mandate

MT Newswires Live12-12

DoorDash (DASH) said Thursday that the company, along with Uber Technologies (UBER), has filed a lawsuit against New York City to challenge an upcoming law that mandates the companies to make a tipping option available at checkout.

The companies are concerned that the law, which would be effective next month, would make tips an "added tax" and aggravate the affordability crisis, according to a statement.

The companies disagree with policies that pressure consumers to tip at checkout instead of after the delivery, according to DoorDash.

The New York City Council did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
