US Equity Markets Mixed Ahead of Fed's Decision on Interest Rates

US equity indexes were mixed Tuesday as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision on Wednesday.

* Odds of a 25-basis-point cut stand at 87.4%, down from 88.4% Monday, according to the CME FedWatch tool.

* US job openings rose slightly to 7.67 million in October, exceeding a Bloomberg survey estimate of 7.12 million and up from 7.66 million in September, Bureau of Labor Statistics data showed. The openings represented 4.6% of total employment, unchanged from the previous month and a year earlier.

* January West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell $0.54 to settle at $58.34 per barrel, while February Brent crude, the global benchmark, was last seen down $0.46 at $62.03.

* Newmont (NEM) shares rose 5.7% after National Bank raised its price target for the stock to $120 from $110 while keeping its outperform rating.

* AutoZone (AZO) shares fell 7.3% after the company reported fiscal Q1 earnings declined from a year earlier, while revenue fell short of market estimates.
