WHAT TO WATCH
--Like Nvidia, Broadcom can give insight into the state of the artificial-intelligence industry, and investors will be listening closely to what Chief Executive Hock Tan says about the landscape.
--Broadcom's tensor processing units (TPUs) are the primary competitor to Nvidia's GPUs, Melius Research analyst Ben Reitzes says. Besides GPUs, TPUs are the most proven AI chip and are gaining more momentum because Broadcom and Google have been developing the chip together for nearly a decade now, Reitzes says. Broadcom's TPU could represent a long-term threat to Amazon Web Services and OpenAI, he adds.
--Beyond its long-time partnership with Google, Broadcom is also looking at selling more TPUs to Anthropic and possibly Meta in the coming years, Reitzes says. Investors will be looking to see how much AI revenue Broadcom expects in the next two fiscal years as it adds more customers, he says.
