Lamborghini has selected an IHI (TYO:7013) turbocharger for its upcoming Temerario plug-in hybrid sports car, marking a win for the Japanese machinery maker as it looks to expand the technology to other hybrids and industrial equipment, Nikkei reported Sunday.
IHI spent about five years developing a custom turbocharger capable of supporting engine speeds of up to 10,000 rpm, meeting Lamborghini's demands for durability, rapid response and low vibration in both racing and road use. Customer deliveries of the Temerario are set to begin in early 2026, according to the report.
The order strengthens IHI's push into plug-in hybrids as emissions rules tighten and demand for fuel-efficient vehicles rises in Japan and the United States. IHI plans to use the Lamborghini project as a springboard into mass-market cars and to apply the technology to industrial machinery, the report said.
