Defense Stocks Tumble Across Europe on Peace Talks -- Market Talk

0929 GMT - European defense stocks sell off steeply after the U.S. offered Ukraine a security guarantee that could help bring the continent closer to peace. A basket of the continent's defense-related stocks--represented by the Stoxx Europe Total Market Aerospace and Defense index--trades down 1.9%. The best performing stock in the index--French multinational Safran--falls 0.3%. Swedish aerospace company Saab is the biggest mover, dropping 6.4%, while blue chips Leonardo and Rheinmetall both shed around 4.5%. Spain's Indra Sistemas drops 5%, while the U.K.'s BAE Systems and Babcock fall 2.2% and 1.75% respectively. (josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)
