India's headline inflation, based on the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to a provisional 0.71% year on year in November, up 46 basis points from 0.25% in October, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Monday.
Food inflation, measured by the All India Consumer Food Price Index, remained negative at -3.91%, though higher than -5.02% in October. Rural food inflation stood at -4.05%, while urban food inflation was -3.60%.
The increase in headline and food inflation in November was mainly driven by higher prices of vegetables, egg, meat and fish, spices, and fuel and light, the release said.
In rural areas, headline inflation rose to 0.10% from -0.25% in October, with food inflation improving to negative 4.05% from negative 4.85%. Urban headline inflation increased to 1.40% from 0.88%, while urban food inflation eased to -3.60% from -5.18%.
Among other categories, housing inflation was 2.95%, education 3.38%, health 3.60%, transport and communication 0.88%, and fuel and light 2.32% in November, with minor month-on-month changes across these sectors.
