Fletcher Building (NZE:FBU, ASX:FBU) has been joined as an additional respondent to Perth-based home builder BGC's claim against Fletcher's Iplex Pipelines Australia unit, according to a Monday filing with the New Zealand and Australian bourses.
In August 2024, BGC filed a class action proceeding against Iplex in the Federal Court of Australia, claiming that the Pro-fit-brand polybutylene pipes manufactured by Iplex between 2017 and 2022 using the Typlex resin are defective and do not comply with the guarantee of acceptable quality.
BGC also alleged that Iplex engaged in "misleading and deceptive" conduct and sought compensation for all members who allegedly suffered losses as a result.
The company said it will defend the attempted extension of responsibility.
Shares of the company fell 2% in recent Monday trade in New Zealand.
