Market Chatter: Asahi CEO Considers New Cybersecurity Team Amid Prolonged Ransomware Fallout

MT Newswires Live12-15

Asahi Group (TYO:2502), Japan's largest brewer, is mulling establishing a dedicated cybersecurity team, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, citing chief executive officer Atsushi Katsuki.

This decision follows a September ransomware attack that crippled its domestic business systems, disrupting operations and financial reporting, with effects likely to persist into next year, the news wire said.

Katsuki said the company is adopting a stricter "zero-trust" security model, meaning it will no longer assume safety within its internal network, the publication said.

As a first step, Asahi has already eliminated its use of virtual private networks (VPNs), the report added, citing Katsuki.
