FDA Issues Warning Letters to Walmart, Target Over ByHeart Infant Formula Recall

The US Food and Drug Administration issued warning letters to Walmart (WMT) and Target (TGT) Friday over the recall of ByHeart's products following an investigation of a multistate outbreak of infant botulism linked to ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula.

The letters, posted on the FDA website Monday, noted that despite recall notifications, visits by regulators confirmed that ByHeart infant formula remained available for purchase at multiple Walmart stores across 21 states between Nov. 12 and Nov. 26 and Target stores across 20 states between Nov. 12 and Nov. 20, respectively.

The agency highlighted the "inadequacy" of Target's recall response when Arkansas state partners observed the recalled formula being sold at a $2 discount between Nov. 16 and Nov. 22.

The retailers were given a period of 15 working days from the receipt of the warning letter to detail the specific steps taken to address the potential violations.

Walmart, Target did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
