European Equities Traded in the US as American Depositary Receipts Lower in Friday Trading; Shares Still Up This Week

European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were trending lower late Friday morning, falling 1% to 1,646.41 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index, which is up 1.3% so far this week.

From continental Europe, the gainers were led by telecommunications operator Telefonica (TEF) and pharmaceutical company Ascendis Pharma (ASND), which rose 1.5% and 1% respectively. They were followed by energy company Equinor (EQNR) and pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk (NVO), which were up 0.6% and 0.3% respectively.

The decliners from continental Europe were led by biopharmaceutical companies Cellectis (CLLS) and DBV Technologies (DBVT), which fell 8.4% and 3.1% respectively. They were followed by telecommunications company Nokia (NOK) and medical device maker EDAP TMS (EDAP), which were down 2.6% and 0.6% respectively.

From the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by biopharmaceutical company Akari Therapeutics (AKTX) and biotech firm Autolus Therapeutics (AUTL), which advanced 8.3% and 1.9% respectively. They were followed by software firm Endava (DAVA) and hospitality company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), which increased 1.7% and 1.1% respectively.

The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical company Biodexa Pharmaceuticals (BDRX) and tobacco company British American Tobacco (BTI), which lost 11.9% and 3.2% respectively. They were followed by insurance company Prudential (PUK) and lender Lloyds Banking Group (LYG), which dropped 2.4% and 1.7% respectively.
