Centrus Energy (LEU) said Friday that it has started domestic centrifuge manufacturing at its Piketon, Ohio, facility to support commercial low-enriched uranium production.
The company said the expansion is backed by Department of Energy funding, private capital, customer contracts, and international partnerships, including a proposed collaboration with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and POSCO International.
Centrus said it expects the project to create thousands of jobs, with the first new production coming online in 2029.
It added that its uranium enrichment expansion is anticipated to fulfill a $2.3 billion backlog of contingent LEU sales and produce high-assay, low-enriched uranium at commercial scale in the future.
