U.S. Extends Key Sanctions Waiver for Japan's Russian LNG Imports

MT Newswires Live12-19

Japanese firms can continue importing liquefied natural gas from Russia's Sakhalin-2 facility, as the United States opted to prolong a sanctions waiver permitting such transactions to continue.

The US Treasury Department confirmed on Wednesday that the special license, which was scheduled to lapse this Friday, will now remain in effect until June 18.

This exemption has allowed Japan to maintain its LNG shipments from Sakhalin-2 despite broader American sanctions on Russian energy imposed following the invasion of Ukraine.
