POLITICS
(*) European Union leaders decided on Friday to borrow cash to fund Ukraine's defence against Russia for the next two years rather than use frozen Russian assets, sidestepping divisions over an unprecedented plan to finance Kyiv with Russian sovereign cash.
Italy will be willing to back a trade agreement between the European Union and the South American Mercosur bloc just as soon as issues surrounding agriculture are resolved, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Thursday.
(*) EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday enough EU member states will support the EU-Mercosur trade deal to eventually approve it, adding its signature would be postponed slightly.

Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti denied on Thursday he had exerted "any interference or pressure" to influence Monte dei Paschi's successful takeover of Mediobanca, which is being investigated by Milan prosecutors.

The tyremaker said on Thursday nearly all holders of its 500 million euro ($587 million) bond expiring this month have chosen to convert it into new shares in the company, diluting the stakes held by the group's existing investors.
The stake of Chinese state-owned Sinochem, Pirelli's largest investor, will be reduced to around 34.1% from 37% now, while that of Camfin - the vehicle of Italian businessman Marco Tronchetti Provera - will dip to 25.3% from 27.4%.

Italy's largest utility said on Thursday that in 2026 it would issue non-convertible hybrid bonds for up to 2 billion euros.

The Italian eyewear maker said on Thursday it had bought a 25% stake in British peer Inspecs between December 15-18, for £21.7 million ($29 million).
STELLANTIS STLAM.MI
The automaker will cut production at the Mulhouse plant in France by 28% from current levels at the start of next year in order to adapt to market demand, a spokesperson said on Thursday.
BANCA IFIS IF.MI
The Venice-based lender said on Thursday it had completed due diligence on its purchase of illimity Bank, enabling it to confirm cost and revenue synergies of 75 million euros per year before taxes. The diligence also highlighted the need for adjustments worth 75 million euros (of which 20 million euros had already been included and expensed in the September 30, 2025 results), in addition to previous write-downs of 290 million euros made by illimity in 2025.

The Italian energy giant has completed the sale of a 49.99% stake in its carbon capture and storage unit to BlackRock's infrastructure fund Global Infrastructure Partners, giving the two groups joint control of the business.

The rocket maker said on Friday it had signed two separate agreements with a European and a non-European customer for a total of over 100 million euros ($117.18 million) to launch multiple satellites aboard a Vega C launcher.

The Italian energy contractor said on Thursday that Aker BP AKRBP.OL had exercised an option to extend for another year the contract for the offshore drilling unit Scarabeo 8 in Norway. The extension is worth $157 million.
