5E Advanced Metals (ASX:5EA) filed an omnibus application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a proprietary, closed-loop in-situ leach mining and production process, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.
The application includes 167 claims covering its mining process and production for boric acid, gypsum, sodium chloride, as well as the management of metal impurities, the filing said. It plans to file several additional standalone applications in the coming weeks.
The process is designed to minimize waste, reduce reagent consumption, lower water and energy consumption, as well as limit surface disturbance compared with conventional open-pit mining, per the filing.
5E Advanced Metals' shares fell past 8% in recent trading on Thursday.
