Chinese tech giant Tencent (HKG:0700) tapped Yao Shunyu to head its newly formed artificial intelligence unit, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

Yao, a former OpenAI researcher, will serve as Tencent's chief AI scientist and lead its newly created AI Infrastructure Department, according to the report.

The department will be responsible for advancing Tencent's development of large AI model training and high-performance inference platforms, the report said.
