Shares of energy companies fell sharply alongside commodity prices as peace negotiations and mild weather weighed.
Oil futures fell after reports that Ukraine was close to agreeing to a redrafted peace proposal.
Analysts said a peace deal could lead to lifting of sanctions on Russian oil producers.
Natural gas futures fell 3.1% to $3.89 per million British thermal units, the fourth straight decline.
