Outgoing BP CEO Murray Auchincloss Was Vulnerable After Elliott Took a Stake -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-18

0755 GMT - Murray Auchincloss's future as CEO of BP had been in the balance since activist investor Elliott Investment Management took over a 5% stake in the company, Hargreaves Lansdown's Derren Nathan writes. Meg O'Neill's appointment completes the clear-out of old management after Chairman Helge Lund went earlier in the year, he adds. "O'Neill may have a fight on her hands to ensure BP's not sold for a song, and to keep a seat at the table if it were to join forces with a competitor," he says. BP's shares closed at 425.55 pence.
