Aflac said a security incident in June involved 22.65 million individuals' information, based on its review of the impacted files.

The insurance company said Friday it had completed a detailed review of the files and started notifying individuals who were effected.

Aflac in June detected suspicious activity on a number of its systems, prompting it to respond with support from third-party cybersecurity experts. The incident was contained within hours and the systems weren't affected by ransomware.

Following the event, Aflac secured accounts identified as possibly impacted, reset passwords and monitored them for further signs of suspicious activity. To date, the company isn't aware of any fraudulent use of personal information, it said.

It is continuing to monitor the situation alongside third-party partners, it said.
