THRILL-ABSENT OPEN

Early trading in Europe has been pretty excitement-free at the start of a week thinned by Christmas in much of the region.

The STOXX 600 is flat and there isn't much drama in national bourses either. .STOXX

Sector wise, miners .SXPP are the best performer, up 1.2%, not surprising with the festive surge in precious metals -- gold and silver are at record highs. XAG= Prices for frankincense or myrrh were not immediately available.

Hustle and bustle elsewhere centred on Japan's yen and its government bonds under pressure, though that isn't having much of an effect on stocks in Europe, even if it's boosting the Nikkei. .N225 .T JP/

Also in the broader mix, big developer China Vanke 000002.SZ narrowly dodged a default on Monday after onshore bondholders approved a plan to extend the grace period of a 2 billion yuan bond repayment to 30 trading days, Reuters reported, citing sources.

Back in Europe, the biggest gainer on the STOXX in early trade was German tech company, Aixtron AIXGn.DE, but is still up just 2.8%.
