The MSCI All Country World ex-USA Index is having a banner year. Through midday trading Tuesday, the benchmark of stocks from developed and emerging markets outside the U.S. has gained 29% in 2025, or 11.7 percentage points more than the S&P 500's gain on the year, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

If those numbers hold through Dec. 31, it would be the best year for the world-stock index since 2009, and also its biggest margin of outperformance against the U.S.-centric S&P since that same year.
