Energy stocks rose Tuesday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index adding 0.8% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) climbing 0.7%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index eased 0.1%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index gained 0.3%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.5% to $58.32 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent advanced 0.4% to $62.34 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures jumped 9.1% to $4.32 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Sable Offshore (SOC) shares surged 32% after the US Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration approved the company's plan to restart the Las Flores Pipeline System.
Ramaco Resources (METC) and Mulberry Industries said they have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to negotiate an offtake partnership that will bolster the US domestic rare earth and permanent magnet supply chain. Ramaco shares jumped 7.5%.
PG&E (PCG) said late Monday it will provide automatic bill credits to residential and business customers affected by a power outage in San Francisco on Dec. 20. The stock fell 0.8%.
