Copper firms like Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO), BHP (ASX:BHP), Newmont (ASX:NEM), Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR), and South32 (ASX:S32) have performed "very well" this year, and are expected to perform strongly over 2026 and beyond, according to a Tuesday Jefferies note.
Jefferies noted that total mined copper production for the third quarter of 2025 fell 2.1% quarterly and also fell 3.6% on a yearly basis following multiple operational challenges during the quarter.
The investment firm said it is bullish on the outlook for the copper price based on a combination of serious supply constraints in the industry and growing global demand.
Jefferies recommends that investors own a basket of copper miners to minimize exposure to "idiosyncratic risks."
Shares of Rio Tinto rose 1% while shares of BHP remained flat in recent Wednesday trade. Meanwhile, shares of Sandfire and South32 rose past 1% with Newmont being almost 1% down.
