IHG Hotels and Resorts plans to open a large hotel complex in Osaka in 2029, positioning itself to tap demand from high-end travelers and corporate visitors as the city prepares for a nearby casino resort, Nikkei reported Tuesday.
The project, located near Universal Studios Japan, will have 817 rooms, making it IHG's largest upcoming hotel project in Japan, the company said. It will be close to an integrated resort scheduled to open in 2030, which will feature a casino as well as conference and exhibition facilities, according to the report.
The project will span two buildings and bring together three brands. InterContinental will account for 244 rooms, Kimpton for 246 rooms, and Holiday Inn Resort for 327 rooms, the report said.
