China Duties on EU Dairy Could Support Cheese Maker Mengniu -- Market Talk

Dow Jones2025-12-23

0318 GMT - China's imposition of antisubsidy fees on European Union dairy products Tuesday might support Chinese cheese companies such as China Mengniu Dairy, DBS Group Research analysts say in commentary. Mengniu, which also owns major cheese company Shanghai Milkground Food Tech, is the leading cheese producer in China with a market share of around 34%, they note. Still, any benefit could be slight as local cheese is already cheaper than EU cheese, they say. The duties are also unlikely to weigh heavily on China's dairy supply, given that EU cheese accounts for 14.5% of the country's total cheese import volume, behind New Zealand's 62.8%.
