Hong Kong recorded a balance of payment deficit of HK$136.5 billion in the third quarter of 2025, representing 16% of its GDP, data released by the Census and Statistics Department Monday showed.
This compares to a balance of payment surplus of HK$105.5 billion in the second quarter, which is 13.4% of the city's GDP.
The current account saw a surplus of HK$98.2 billion, or 11.5% of GDP.
The decline in current account surplus from HK$113.2 billion in the year-ago period was mainly attributed to a drop in the net inflow of primary income to HK$54.5 billion from HK$80.3 billion a year prior.
The goods account recorded a surplus of HK$1.5 billion in the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with deficit of HK$600 million in the same quarter of 2024.
