Technology was one of the few sectors to record gains in the post-holiday thin trade Friday.
Nvidia was among the gainers, after the chip maker agreed to license technology from artificial-intelligence chip start-up Groq, which announced the deal on Christmas Eve.
Apple rose slightly, following a Reuters report that China's imports of foreign-branded mobile phones, including the iPhone, rose sharply in November from a year earlier.
