China Shenhua Energy Starts Operation at New Power Plant Unit

China Shenhua Energy (SHA:601088, HKG:1088) has commenced commercial operation of a new unit at its Qingyuan Phase II power plant project in China's Guangdong provice, according to a Shanghai Stock Exchange filing on Tuesday.

The development follows a 168-hour trial operation of Unit 3 of the project that is 67% owned by Shenhua Energy unit Guoneng Qingyuan Power Generation.

Qingyuan Phase II is located in Shakou Town, Yingde City, Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province and is expected to power the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The company plans to build two 1,000 MW ultra-supercritical double reheat coal-fired power generating units for Qingyuan Phase II. The project has a designed coal consumption of 262.23 grams per kilowatt-hour.

Construction of Unit 4 of the Qingyuan Phase II power plant is still ongoing and the plant is expected to be fully operational in February 2026.

Shares of the company fell marginally in Shanghai recently, while its Hong Kong-listed shares were up nearly 1%.
